Awards Start Here!
It’s that time again. Time to look around and see who you know that represents the best in the counseling profession. The goal of the awards process is not only to honor outstanding counselors but also to recognize and publicize the excellent contribution to our schools and communities that counselors make. Each year we find more ways to publicize the profession and its representative honorees.
Each region or division is encouraged to honor a Counselor of the Year. This person then becomes the region’s or division’s Finalist for KCA Counselor of the Year, doubly honored. So, the immediate step is for all six regions and eight divisions to review their selection process and publicize deadlines for nominations for their honor. Once those selections have been made the region/division president sends the completed state COY nomination form to the Awards Committee chair, Carolyn Wilson. All names of Finalists will be held strictly confidential until the person has been honored by his or her region or division. The deadline for receiving nominations (i.e. Finalists) to the state awards committee is December 20. Region/division deadlines will necessarily be earlier.
Criteria for KCA Counselor of the Year can be found on the KCA website. Nomination forms can be obtained from the region or division president.
(Webmaster's Note: These forms can also be found in the Members area on the Awards Committee Pages or by CLICKING HERE.)
Hall of Fame nominations may be made by any member of KCA. Those forms are on the website.
Certainly counselors are some of the most humble individuals anywhere. However, honoring the best of them honors the profession and brings needed recognition of the work of every counselor. Do consider becoming involved in this process.
